A public proof-of-concept exploit is available, and the vulnerability has already been exploited in the wild.

About Cross Site Scripting - Microsoft Exchange (CVE-2026-42897) vulnerability. The vulnerability was fixed on May 14 outside the regular Microsoft Patch Tuesday cycle. Improper neutralization of input during web page generation (CWE-79, XSS) in Microsoft Exchange Server allows an unauthorized attacker to perform spoofing over a network. In practical terms, this means that a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted email to a user. If the user opens the email in Outlook Web Access and certain interaction conditions are met, arbitrary JavaScript can be executed in the browser context. As a result, the attacker may gain control of the user's mailbox by using an active user session.

👾 Microsoft experts immediately reported signs of active exploitation in the wild for this vulnerability. The vulnerability was added to the CISA KEV on May 15.

⚒️ A public exploit for the vulnerability was published on GitHub on May 15 as well.

⚙️ Initially, mitigation measures were recommended to address the vulnerability, delivered via the Exchange Emergency Mitigation (EM) service or by using the Exchange on-premises Mitigation Tool (EOMT) script. Security updates that fix the vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange Server Subscription Edition RTM, Exchange Server 2016, and Exchange Server 2019 were released almost a month later, on June 9. Microsoft experts recommended keeping the mitigations enabled even after applying the patch, as they provide an additional layer of protection. However, applying these mitigations may cause issues (for example, errors when printing calendars and displaying images in OWA).

⚠️ Please note that Exchange Server 2016 and 2019, which are out of support, are also affected by this vulnerability. Only customers enrolled in the Period 2 Extended Security Update (ESU) program are eligible to receive Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 security updates released between May and October 2026.

About Spoofing - Microsoft SharePoint Server (CVE-2026-32201) vulnerability. A vulnerability from the April Microsoft Patch Tuesday. The description provided by Microsoft experts is extremely vague: "Improper input validation in Microsoft Office SharePoint allows an unauthorized attacker to perform spoofing over a network. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could view some sensitive information (Confidentiality), make changes to disclosed information (Integrity), but cannot limit access to the resource (Availability)." Spoofing is an attack in which a threat actor forges data, an address, an identifier, or a trusted source in order to impersonate a legitimate user, service, or system.

What is actually hidden behind this description? In the April review on MSPT, a ZDI expert noted that vulnerabilities of this kind in SharePoint are often associated with XSS attacks.

🛠 On April 23, an exploit was published on GitHub, whose author claims that the vulnerability can be summarized as follows: "An unauthenticated attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to inject malicious JavaScript (reflected XSS), which executes in the security context of the SharePoint site."

In other words, the attacker sends a specially crafted request to the SharePoint server, causing SharePoint to generate a malicious link on behalf of a trusted source. The attacker then passes this link to the user. When the user opens such a link, the injected malicious JavaScript executes in the context of SharePoint, which can be used to steal data from the current session, intercept authentication tokens, as well as perform actions on behalf of the user through the user's active session.

👾 Microsoft experts noted the vulnerability as being exploited in the wild on the day of publication of the April Microsoft Patch Tuesday, April 14. The vulnerability was added to the CISA KEV. On the same day, researchers from Defused reported coordinated reconnaissance activity targeting vulnerable SharePoint servers, which was carried out from four IP addresses between April 1 and April 11.

GitLab recommends that all installations running a version affected by the issues described in the bulletin are upgraded to the latest version as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, Gitlab, as well as some other Western companies, is currently hostile to the country where I live and work. So their calls to immediately install updates now have additional connotations. If Gitlab is so clearly politically motivated that even the logo on their site has been recolored in a certain way, then what else can be expected from their updates? Backdoors? Malicious functionality that wipes data? Quite possible. IMHO, when companies are so willing to mix geopolitical messages and business, it exposes them as unreliable vendors that should be avoided.

But let’s get back to vulnerabilities. There are 17 CVEs in the bulletin. We will start with the most critical one.
